Things to Do In Medicine Hat
Dubbed “The Hat” by locals, Medicine Hat is located in the scenic Saskatchewan River Valley and boasts more than 100 kilometres of linked walking trails. Both Seven Persons Creek and Ross Creek empty into the South Saskatchewan River close to town, making its location historically rich; Cree, Blackfoot and Assiniboine First Nations used this area for hundreds of years before the Europeans settled here. In fact, here’s a piece of local trivia for you: The city’s name comes from the English translation of the Blackfoot word “Saamis,” the eagle tail-feather headdress worn by medicine men. Hence, “Medicine Hat.”
