One of the best things about Medicine Hat is the beautiful nature that surrounds it. In the winter, under a fresh blanket of snow, everything is peaceful and glimmering. The winter makes the city calm, but also provides it with plenty of activities. The best places to get that mix of nature and fun is one of Medicine Hat’s parks. Whether you want to cross-country ski, go on a hike, or toboggan down a hill- Medicine Hat’s Parks have it all.

Kin Coulee

Kin Coulee Park is a beautiful 100 acre expanse through Medicine Hat, and one of the most popular nature destinations in the area. The Seven Person’s creek runs through the park, and there are trails maintained in the winter for hiking and snowshoeing. The busiest winter activity in the park is the tobogganing hill, noted as the best in the area. Lights were installed recently, making it a great tobogganing destination for the evenings as well as the days. It’s recommended to bundle up, but the park also has plenty of firepits that can be used to help stay warm.

Echo Dale Park

Echo Dale Park is located about a 10 minute drive from Medicine Hat. There are two man-made lakes, one for boating and fishing, and the other for swimming. In the winter, swimming may not be an option, but the beauty of the park is still on full display. Rocky outcrops against tall trees make Echo Dale Park a serene place to visit and hike through, and it’s at its best under a layer of snow. Between the water and the historic farmhouse located in the park, there are many beautiful views to enjoy on the trails.

Police Point Park

Police Point Park, named for the Mounted Police outpost that used to be there, is best known for the nature and animals that inhabit it. Visitors frequently see animals in the winter like deer, foxes, and even porcupines! This makes the park a popular destination for winter hiking. In addition to hiking, many people opt to snowshoe through the Police Point Park trails. There’s also a trail to go cross-country skiing through the park!

While in the area, stop at the Days Inn Medicine Hat for safe and comfortable accommodation. After spending your day in the park, enjoy the indoor pool and waterslide, and wake up to the complimentary breakfast.
